Bliss Dinosaur Ranch Entrance

I’m usually working on my editing workstation during the heat of the day. Enjoying the AC, sipping on a cool drink, working on images or doing my day job off in another building. . I wander some days back and forth between ranch chores that have to be done and the photography stuff. Stopping what I’m doing to click away on something interesting ongoing usually.

Each image I publish here I consider a Page in my eventual coffee table book. I might have to pick and choose lolol. The time taking the photo, the time in the computer necessary to properly finish the image add up. To write a 250+ word narrative too… Format the autoposting schedule and check my SEO scores. I figure 1.5 hours per post x 4 a day. Raise your hand if you know what an SEO score is lolol.

In the last year, I have published 2000 finished (more or less) pages. Each page is one finished image and the narrative attached. Those are “elsewhere” on the internet. Free Reading there. lol.

This has been languishing in a “to do” folder on my computer. I pulled the raw file out of the time line back in early June. A firm 15 mph breeze was kicking out of the north. All downdraft related to that HUGE cloud looming off in the distance. The storms were flowing past us missing us almost every time. Then the early July Hail storm hit. Mesocyclones are nothing to disrespect. You don’t want to get caught out in the backcountry on a horse or open ATV period.

Yes those are solar panels… they run one building pretty much entirely and pump some water… feed excess back to grid. You will never recoup your investment. Just saying after owning various panels for 35 years. I actually moved my 6 panel solar tracker (located on a well on ranch) from Jackson Hole where I lived, to here in Northeastern Wyoming. Purchased in 1995, all but one panel are still producing 5 years past their expected lifetime. That tracker survived moving it 600 miles across the state. I actually made 16 round trips for that relocation pulling a big trailer. 1 small moving truck too lol.

There are a lot of buildings in our compound. The July hail storm dimpled almost 47000 square feet of metal roof. All of which has to be replaced. The solar panels are ALL fine and dandy after the storm. The hail was coming right at their edge, nothing hit the glass surface anywhere close to perpendicular.

Meadowlark on Ranch Gate Silhouette

A neighbors ranch gate to their main entry nicely ornate with a plasma cut piece of soft steel. Rusted to a nice tan patina during the day. The gateway having stood for around 20 years to my recollection. Ranches take great pride in their entrances.

The Meadowlark on this 2:1 image aspect capture was VERY cooperative. I kept thinking he would fly away as I did adjust my position a few times. Movement after you stop is not well tolerated by Meadowlarks. They take flight (usually) as you try to adjust your position for a proper composition. This time it was not so flighty. I figure it was watching the sunset with the rest of us. I’m thinking he was unaware of the stampede occurring right under his nose.

This image meant as a diptych work of course. The timing for sunset at this particular point in space and time was a matter of just being there with a camera capable of working in this high light environment. It’s hard to understand but this light envelope was a bright sun behind a thick cloud veil. All taking place at sunset. It was an amazing occurrence to have a meadowlark sit for me to light up a composition like this lol. I’m sure it’s something “Sneaky Pete” arranges but I may never know….😜🤘

Sunset through a Veiled sky just after the horizons shadow passed over me. The hills behind me are still in daylight. The contrasts are difficult for a camera system to capture. To have detail instead of shadow in this kind of shot speaks to the gear.

It is now mid winter up here on the ridges of Northeastern Wyoming and SouthWestern Montana. In this view west both states are in the distance. That mountain range is 40 miles distant from my camera. From the middle of the corral system next to our homestead looking west. I can’t tell you how many cattle have been through these corrals over the last 100 years. I suspect it is in the 30,000 range or there about.

Our ranch is a small “hobby” ranch versus the big ranches in the 20 Thousand Acres (or more) spread that surround me. Our place is only 3500 acres or 5.5 square miles. It’s enough to keep me busy that’s for sure. Never underestimate the power of a piece of ground to be a black hole for your time and money lol. Even worse, there are dinosaurs in this ground lolol. They take some of my effort from time to time up here too. There are 30 miles of fencing on or around my ground. I’ve spent my share of time building and fixing fences over the years. I have some fence work to do in these corrals at the moment. I had some bulls go through an outer fence behind the gate. Dang!

Happy New Years Eve All from myself and the rest of the crew on the Bliss Dinosaur Ranch.

Bye Bye that long decade. God bless all those we left behind in our travels

This image is “filed” under things I see coming home with a pile of cameras in a box next to me….. 📸📸📸📷📷📷 From my front driveway on one Alpenglow filled sky last winter. I had been taking photos of those two all evening against the sunset. This is one of the reasons I raise Corriente Long Horns. I like their profile photographically 😜

Cowboys roping dinosaurs is sort of what we do up here. There are over 10K fossils in the collection at this point. Most are small teeth and vertebra of course (1000’s), but we’ve found some nice fossils up here.

My New years Resolution is to take more photos of those fossils and get them on line for others to enjoy. Somebody might/will see something I’ve done wrong, an improper ID, something. It’s a good thing to do sharing. I learn as much as the rest of you writing as you do reading this stuff. I mostly double check my information lolol.

My dad’s famous saying was to me “Things are as they are, not as they seem or how you have been told. “. This applies to every thing you hear on the news these days. So enough narrative for New Years Eve. Be safe in crowds everyone (stay away from gun free zones), have a great time tonight. Moderation in all things please lolololololololololol. (I know my audience 😜)
